PBC Childrens Camp 2010

We just got back from the Providence Baptist Church Childrens Camp at Waukaway Springs in Vossburg, MS. We had a blast! The water was VERY cold, but crystal clear to the bottom. In the swimming area they have a 'blob', where one person sits on one end and another jumps down to launch them in the air. Here, Manning is fixing to launch me!

There I go! Whee! Well, not so 'whee', more like 'aaaaaaaaaaaaa!' I got launched here by Rusty, who did a much better job than Manning.

Harvey LIVES!

Although we have not been able to go in Harvey like we would have wanted, I have kept him up and ready by cranking him every other week or so. He is actually in great shape for his age, and I have only had to do one major fix: the fuel pump on the sending unit in the gas tank. I fixed that by purchasing a new pump and attatching it to the old sending unit.

Suddenly I couldn't get Harvey to start. All symptoms led to another fuel-pump problem, but I hated to drop the tank again. After trying everything else, I dropped the tank and pulled out the fuel sending unit. Sure enough, there was the problem: the hose going from the fuel pump to the fuel line had disentegrated from being submerged in gasoline (see above). I guess it is designed to have fuel flow through it, but not actually be IN fuel.

I lucked up and found an exact retrofit for the whole sending unit. I had been looking for awhile, but only found fuel sending units that fit the Econoline Van, not an RV based on an Econoline van. I saw a post on a forum about this specific model, and sure enough it was an exact match! I installed it, and Harvey started up without any problems. I hope I get 20 or 30 years out of it, I don't want to drop that tank again.

I saw this handbag in Kohls. I declare it the 'Ultimate 80s Handbag'. A neon colored boom-box with cassette and graphic equalizer? Very 80s!

Happy Birthday!

It's that time of year again, where me and my grandmother Mama Flo combine our birthdays into one convienient day for everyone to come and celebrate. Mama Flo is getting on up there (84!) and didn't want any presents, so we decided to just give her a work day and clean up her yard and house.

Cooling Off

Painting Winn-Dixie is taking way too long, so we decided to take a break when we got invited to swim at a friends house.

Old Timey

I have been eating at the Sonic a lot lately, since it is convienient to the Winn-Dixie where I am working. Tonight we saw this mint-condition old-timey car pull up right beside us.

Kamper Park Zoo

We have started babysitting Anna Mapp, and we kicked off the toddler season with a trip to Kamper Park Zoo. We aren't much into the 'plop them in front of the tv' types, so we thought a trip to the zoo (and train ride!) would be fun. Just Hanging Around

I installed a pull-up bar in the doorway to the office in hopes of reminding me to exercise a little. The kids are always swinging on it, and with the help of a bin, they can kinda halfway pull-up.

A 'Famous' Boulder

On a recent commercial shoot in Ocean Springs, I was told that the large sphere in the backyard was used as the boulder in the fan-made film Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation (video here). It was big and hollow, but still structurally intact.

A Hankerin' for a 'melon

Here we are deep into summer and we haven't even had a watermelon yet! We set out to find a good local vendor and found this nice man at the gas station on the Hwy11 and 49 intersection.

Here we go! We picked some good ones. Later, we cut and ate them and they were mighty fine!

Happy 4th!

The Providence Baptist Church 4th of July spectacular is always fun! We had a patriotic musical, followed by good food, fellowship, lots of games and fun, and ending with community-wide fireworks show!

YET ANOTHER DSL!

Ian is heck on Nintendo DS Lites (DSL). Keighly is on her 2nd in many years, Emily is on her third (two were hand-me-downs that only kinda-worked), but Ian has somehow managed to destroy 4 (yes FOUR)! It is usually little stuff, like a broken hinge or sticky button, but it is enough to incapacitate the device. On a positive note, I have become very good at dissasembling/reassembling the DSL. Above you see the kitchen table as I try to fix Ian's latest problem: pickle juice was poured into his DSL. Yes, I know, it makes no sense, but it happened.

So, here is Ian's latest DSL (where is Ian's shirt?). It is silver, which is good because we try to keep everyone's DSLs a different color. We usually buy these second hand on craigslist for a good price. This one came from a nice lady in Petal, her daughter outgrew it.
